Hon. Aliyu Gebi dismiss call for arrest of Deputy Speaker

A member of the House of Representatives and Chairman House Committee on Internal Security Honourable Aliyu Gebi has described as preposterous and baseless the call for the arrest of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives by Public Interest Lawyers League, PILL
In a statement issued in Abuja Honurable Gebi said there is no substance and truth on the ground on which PILL centered its call
“It is preposterous and baseless” he said adding “it is clear that the group is doing the bidding of some faceless masters in the executive branch who are out to discredit the fuel subsidy probe report of the house”
Honnourable Gebi added “they are out to cause rancor within the leadership of the House of Representatives. The allegations are empty”
He said the entire membership of the House can predict the mindset of the group and will never abandon its leadership at this time
“We, the entire members of the House of Representatives stand solidly behind the leadership of the House, we stand solidly behind the leadership of Emeka Ihedioha, we stand unshakably behind the leadership of Aminu Tambuwal” he said
He said “we are convinced that these people are doing the bidding of people in the executive arm of government who are out to cover up the report of the House on petrol subsidy” if not, “why are they are going after people in the executives, people in the NNPC and those in the ministry of petroleum resources and at people in the presidency. Why is it always the House of Representatives?” he queried
He reminded the faceless lawyers behind PILL to remember the oath they took at their swearing in as lawyers, to be custodians of the truth
“If they have any issues they should come and ask for clarifications from the house, they should put forward a formal petition to the House and be ready to come forward to defend their allegation”
On the performance of the Deputy Speaker at the committee of the whole House in question he said it was very elevating for a presiding officer of his sort.
“His performance on the day in question was without reproach. He handled the day masterfully according to the House rules. I remember hearing him say Honourable colleagues listen, Hon. Farouk is making a very serious submission. Hon Farouk is that the position of your committee members on this? he said yes, and the deputy speaker replied “interesting” adding “I am proud of the leadership of the Deputy Speaker
