It has become necessary to respond to some tissues of lies being reeled out by the so-called deputy governor of Anambra State and his cohorts in Owerre-Ezukala. The picture that is painted in some newspapers in Nigeria by Mr. Sibeudu and his former school and class mates at All Saints’ Grammar School is that Ogbunka indigenes are not peace-loving and very belligerent. It is very unfortunate that a man, who ordinarily is not qualified
to be the chairman of Orumba South local government, can unashamedly be a prosecutor and a judge in a matter he knew nothing or very little about. No matter how much the deputy governor denies his involvement in the escalation of the conflict between Ogbunka and Owerre-Ezukala, his actions speak undeniable volumes. The rapprochement between the deputy governor and some elements from Owerre-Ezukala is not hidden. Mr. Sibeudu has emboldened Owerre-Ezukala since he was appointed a deputy governor by Mr. Peter Obi. He is running with the hare and chasing with the hound.
Methinks that a man in authority shall not be engaged in favoritism in dealing with those under his jurisdiction. For the deputy governor to gainsay Ogbunka, in the current matter, points to his cerebral vacuity. ‘Ognunka is lying, while Owerre-Ezukala is telling the truth.’ This is what Mr. Sibeudu wants a rational person to believe. Since he became deputy governor last year, Owerre-Ezukala has carried out several commando attacks on Ogbunka with his impudent backing. Can the deputy governor tell the same media trumpeting his hatchet and hollow defense of Owerre-Ezukala what he said to the women (Umu-ada) that visited him at Awka over the land dispute? A leader is one because of the noble examples he or she shows. This unknown quantity that now bestrides over the land dispute between Ogbunka and Owerre-Ezukala like a colossus should bury his head in infamy. Mr. Sibeudu is drunk with absolute power. In case he does not know, power is very transient.
Mr. Sibeudu wants to be seen as a hero. He claimed he saved an 85-year-old handicapped woman from a burning house. The deputy governor’s words betrayed his parochialism in the land dispute. Mr. Sibeudu claimed that for his intervention with detachments of mobile police, army, and state security service, the carnage allegedly perpetrated against Owerre-Ezukala by Ogbunka would have been incalculable. The truth is that the deputy governor invaded Ogbunka with his security agents breaking into houses, arresting people, and raping young girls. The 25 Ogbunka indigenes being charged to court were arrested in their homes in Ogbunka. They were not arrested in Owerre-Ezukala. Their trial is nothing but a charade and a travesty. Mr. Sibeudu has an unspoken grouse against Ogbunka. He might save himself emotional anguish and pain by stating what his beef with Ogbunka is.
Truth will always overcome falsehood. No matter how cleverly and disingenuously lies are spun, they fizzle out in the radiance of truth. One would have expected the deputy governor to play the role of an impartial third party in this matter. He has failed to show credibility and credulity. Ogbunka indigenes do not trust him. A couple of months ago, a team constituted by Anambra State government came and looked into the boundary dispute. Everything was recorded by both communities and the team that worked on the boundary dispute. It was the deputy governor that enjoined his classmates from Owerre-Ezukala not to agree to the report of the team he shamelessly constituted. It is becoming clear that the deputy governor plays a double standard. He is not trustworthy. A town known as Nkerehi under him has been torn apart because of name change. Half indigenes of that community are on exile for the past three years. Last year the deputy governor visited the United States for the first time in his life. He was hosted by Umunze indigenes in New Jersey. His kinsmen pleaded with him to look into the bloody conflict in Nkerehi/Umuchukwu. Mr. Sibeudu promised to look into the matter with urgency. Can he tell the people of Anambra State what he has done to reconcile Nkerehi/Umuchukwu?
In about two years, Mr. Sibeudu might be nominated by APGA as its gubernatorial candidate. That would be a political hara-kiri for the party in Anambra State. He is not worthy of a state like Anambra. Anambra people should watch this egotistic maniac closely and reject him roundly in 2014. What he is doing with Ogbunka today is a precursor to how he will destroy the State if elected its chief executive. Anambra South Senatorial zone has more qualified people to be elected governor than the current unstable deputy governor. Mr. Emeka Sibeudu is a political liability and the earlier Mr. Peter Obi reins him in, the better for his administration. This is because whoever sows wind will most assuredly reap whirlwind.
