What would have been a black May Day was averted in Bauchi, North East Nigeria when a suspected forerunner of a suicide bomber was intercepted at the Government House by vigilant security operatives. Eyewitnesses say the middle-aged man who was riding a motorcycle forced himself into the Government House when the gates
were opened for a particular car to drive in. He was immediately arrested and taken to the nearest police station for investigation.
The Anti-Bomb Squad of the Police which later examined the motorcycle used by the suspect said it was not carrying any explosive.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ladan who confirmed the incident said the suspect claimed that his motorcycle developed fault and he lost control which led him into Government House.
Sources close to the investigation however say the arrested suspect who made incoherent statements may have been a forerunner sent to test the level of security at the Government House which only recently deployed new measures to check the movement of all staff and visitors to the seat of power in the State
