Murder of Plateau Senator, Lawmaker; David Mark, Abaribe reacts

SENATE President David Mark has described the assassination of Senator Gyang Dalyop Dantong, Plateau North as a great shock. In a statement signed by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, Senate President Mark who noted that the death of Dantong was a personal loss, however warned that, “the incessant
killings of innocent Nigerians must be stopped,’’ adding that the federal government, state and local governments and security operatives must rise to halt these senseless killings.

Late Senator Dantong was until his death the Chairman, Senate Committee on Health as well as member, Senate Committee on MDGS, Solid Minerals and Aviation.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Abia South who stressed that the murder of Senator Dantong was a tragedy to the Senate, described him as a calm, gentle, unassuming, loving and humane doctor.
Also reacting, Dantong’s Vice Chairman in the Health Committee, Senator Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, Delta North when contacted by Vanguard to comment him described the late Senator as a calm man and one who was passionate about his work and his people, adding that he was always going for weekend to have a feeling of his people’s problems.
According to Okowa, ‘’his death is unfortunate, he was a calm man, very committed to his people, passionate about his people; he went home every weekend to see his people. It is unfortunate he died in the course. May his soul rest in peace.’’
Speaking further about the death of the Senator, Senate President Mark said, “We must do everything within the ambit of our laws to ensure that this type of murderous acts is stopped. As a nation, we must just rise against those who are determined to return us to a state of nature where life had little or no value.”
