Suspected Boko haram Gunmen throw grenades at police station

The Divisional police headquarters in Shagari, Shagari local government of Sokoto state was ravaged by hand grenades thrown by unidentified bombers suspected Boko Haram members. The Station, which is on the side along Shagari – Jega road, was attacked around 5.35am. Eye-witnesses said the bombers who were about
twenty in number rode on two motor bikes while others in a jeep.
Elombah.com learnt the Armed men attacked the Divisional police station in the local government but when the policemen on duty returned fire, the terrorists hauled hand grenades into the station thereby blowing it up.
“They were up to twenty. Some were on motorcycles and others in a jeep. They opened fire at the station but when they were being over-powered by the Police, they threw hand grenades, which blew the station to shrewd,” the eye-witness said.
According to him, two of the bombers allegedly shot by the Police were taken into the Jeep and fled with. “The Police shot two of them but those in the Jeep picked him and ran away,” he added.
Reports from a Vanguard reporter who inspected the station found out that the entire roof of the building was blown off and burnt, with no indication that anything was picked.
More so, two police vans, one of which was among the 60 Hilux jeeps recently donated by Sokoto state government, were equally blown off.
Police officers declined to talk but the Village Head, Alhaji Sani Abdullahi told Vanguard that the whole town was in shock
“We have never seen anything like that here. We were shock. We call on the Police authorities to provide more personnel as well as provide them with modern arms,” he said.
Confirming the incident to Vanguard, Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa said that hoodlums came on three motorcycles to attack the station but the attack was repelled.
“Hoodlums came on three motorcycles to attack the Shagari Divisional Police headquarters but our men repelled the attack. They then threw hand grenades which blew off the building and two Police vans,” CP Aliyu said.
He added that “From all indications, two of them were shot but a black jeep that was backing the hoodlums up picked them.”
Aliyu said that investigation was on and believed that the hoodlums would be arrested.
