2019: SDP Elated Over Buhari’s Declaration, Says He’s Unpopular Opponent

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed joy over the declaration of intent by President Muhammadu Buhari to contest the 2019 presidential election.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alfa Mohammed said “it is a good news”.

The deputy spokesman said that they are celebrating the dwindling popularity of President Buhari to coast clear to victory.

He said Buhari’s unpopularity rests on his inability to provide the much-desired change for which he was elected.

He further made caricature of Buhari’s insistence to contest the election despite persuasions by eminent Nigerians, even former presidents.

Mohammed said his insistence amounted to insensitivity to the “horrific and pitiable conditions” of the citizenry.

The president had bluffed calls from several quarters urging him not to run including former heads of state, the Northern Elders Forum, a coalition of Arewa youths, and many more.

The SDP scribe lamented “rising cases of insecurity, excruciating poverty caused by failed economic policies as well as high rate of unemployment” as reasons for Buhari not to seek re-election.

He expressed hope that Buhari will come to his senses and stay away from polls come the 2019 presidential election in the interest of Nigerians.
