2023: Igbo Muslims Urge Governor Umahi To Run For Presidency

Muslims in Ebonyi State, on Thursday, May 13, 2021 called on governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State to make himself available to contest for the president of Nigeria in 2023.
In a resolution signed by their leader in the State, Alhaji Abbas Egwu and over 100 others during Sallah homage to the state governor at old government House, Abakaliki, lauded Umahi for his foresightedness in governance.
“That we appreciate His Excellency’s dynamism and foresightedness in leadership, hence, his party, All Progressives Congress, APC, is our party and his enemy, we shall abhore.
“That we plead with His Excellency, Engr. Dr. David Umahi to make himself available for the National service in 2023, in shaa Allah”, the resolution stated.
On the security challenge in the State, the Muslims vowed to stop any of their members or group of people that try to undermine security in the State.
They also vowed to stop anyone trying to destroy infrastructure put in place by the state government.
They said they had resolved as a group to be providing security reports to the Chief Security Officer of the state, Governor Dave Umahi as support for his good governance in the state.
“We shall stop anyone or group of people who in any form attempt to undermine the security of the state or destroy the infrastructure put in place by our dear governor.
Responding, governor David Umahi who was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, urged them not to discriminate on the basis of religion.
He commended them for volunteering to be giving security reports to the state government which he said would help to nip the activities of hoodlums in the bud.
Umahi who described Islam as a religion of peace, urged Muslims to shun violence.
