Prince Matthew Kolawole, speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly and his counterpart in Kwara, Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, have spoken out in favour of the growing campaign to have the next president of the country emerge from the North Central part of the country, after the Kogi speaker visitied Ilorin, the Kwara Capital to canvass support for his state’s governor, Yahaya Bello.
At a parley in Ilorin with the Kwara state lawmakers at the state assembly complex in the city capital, Prince Kolawole said that equity demands that Nigeria supports the North Central to produce the next president for Nigeria.
“Our Visit to Kwara state is like a notification visit. We bring good news from Kogi State, particularly from our political party APC. We are here today to notify you and give you information about the plan ahead particularly as regards the 2023 general election.
“We are here on behalf of our governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the youngest among the governors in Nigeria today.
“We are campaigning for him to be president of the country in 2023 when it should be the turn of the North Central to produce the next president,” the Kogi speaker said.
He further added that Bello’s candidature is backed by years of meritorious services to Kogi people in Health, Security economy and reforms of the civil service.
“As a result of this, we decide to make advocacy visit to our colleagues from different states.
“We have decided to talk to our colleagues who will be delegates in future election. Based on our resolution, he has accepted to run for presidency.
“We are here in Kwara state to brief our distinguished colleagues to key into this project we are here to appeal to you to support us,” the Kogi speaker said.
The Kwara Assembly speaker in response said that campaign is a bold one but asks for divine blessings ahead.
“We pray to God almighty that it should be a journey that favours the North Central zone. The Kogi State House of Assembly has taken a bold step for coming up with a resolution.
“This will be the First of its kind in the history of Nigeria where a house of assembly will come up with a resolution telling a candidate to go and contest for an election,” Danladi said.
