2011: PDP releases compressed guidelines for primaries

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, released a compact guidelines for its primary elections, indicating that the primaries would kick off in October 2, with special congresses elections at state assemblies nationwide. The guidelines were released shortly after the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party rose from its meeting at the party’s national secretariat, with the approval of the draft guidelines presented to it by the National Working Committee (NWC).

The PDP pegs its nomination forms for presidential aspirants at N10 million, as each of them was expected to signify interest in the presidential race with an expression fee of N1 million.

Governorship aspirants are expected to pay the sum of N5 million to collect the nomination forms and N500,000 as expression of interest fee.

While each senatorial aspirant and House of Representatives’ aspirants would pay the sum of N2 million and N1 million respectively, they were to express interest in the race with the sum of N200,000 and N100,000 respectively.

Women aspirants were exempted from paying for nomination fee, although they would pay N200,000 as expression of interest fee.

The PDP also granted waiver to the former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, an indication that he could now proceed with preparations for the 2011 presidential election which was hitherto on hold.

The guidelines indicated that the primaries for governorship aspirants would hold between October 6 and 8, to be followed by the National Assembly primaries between October 12 and 14.

According to the guidelines, the presidential election primaries would hold between October 18 and 20.

The process for the collection of forms, according to the guidelines, would start on September 16 and end in September 26.
