Unconfirmed reports have it that the aspiring Anambra Governor and former domestic assistant to ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo was in Saudi Arabia with President Umaru Yar’adua. Yar’adua’s new found love with Andy Uba, is said to have been informed by his recent reconciliation with former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, who influenced the election victory that produced him as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in May 2007.
To demonstrate this new relationship, Yar’Adua is said to have personally invited the former special Assistant to Obasanjo on Domestic Matters, to accompany him on his trip to Saudi Arabia, for the lesser hajj and medical check-up.
Elombah.com had exclusively reported that Obasanjo and Yar’adua have agreed to make Andy Uba the next governor of Anambra State. Multiple inside PDP sources have confided to Elombah.com that early last month, Obasanjo confronted President Yar’adua and pleaded with him to make Andy Ubah the next Anambra Governor. Obasanjo had convinced Yar’adua to work towards making Andy Uba governor.
Sources say it was Andy Ubah’s current closeness to Yar’adua and his presence at Saudi Arabia that led to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hurriedly overturning the decisions of its South-East Zonal stakeholders in Enugu dissolving the Anambra State Executive Committee of the party led by Mr. Uchenna Emodi. Former Vic-President and founding father of the PDP, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the Party’s National Chairman, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, Enugu State, Governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime, his counterpart in Ebonyi State, Chief Martins Elechi, PDP National Vice-Chairman, Olisa Metu among others attended the meeting in Enugu.
The same Ogbulafor who presided over the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting a few months ago when Emordi was installed the PDP Chairman in Anambra State, also participated actively in the zonal stakeholders meeting where the earlier party decision was quashed.Andy Ubah was said to have influenced President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua who put a Presidential phone call across to Ogbulafor, from Saudi Arabia ordering Ogbulafor to ensure that the Enugu decision was over turned by the NEC of the Party.
Emordi, is to work for the emergence of Andy Ubah as the Party’s governorship candidate in the 2010 election in the state.
Obasanjo, sources said, practically knelt and asked that despite everything and whatever his sins against Yar’adua, that “project Andy Ubah” is the most important thing in his life at the moment. Yar’adua, they said, has acquiesced to this “last wish”.It was based on this assurance that Mr. Emmanuel Nnamdi (Andy) Uba now filed a fresh lawsuit last June at the Federal Court of Appeal in Enugu seeking an order directing that he was duly “elected” governor by virtue of the gubernatorial election held on April 14th 2007.
He is also requesting that the court direct that he take over from Mr. Peter Obi on March 17, 2010; when the tenure of incumbent Governor Peter Obi is due to expire. Also, Uba’s lawyers led by Ajibola Aribisala (SAN) are seeking a motion barring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting a fresh election into the office of governor pending the determination of the suit.Andy Uba had gone to the Supreme Court on three occasions but lost his prayer that Obi’s return was illegal and unconstitutional. Uba has now gone to the Court of Appeal which had earlier maintained that the governorship election of Uba which the Supreme Court differed on should stand.
This time every arrangement is being made to ensure that the Court rules in his favour; Andy Ubah and his mentors are leaving no stone unturned.
