The RDS statistics on immigration, asylum and nationality cover:

  • asylum applications, decisions and appeals
  • people refused entry at port and then removed, enforced removals and voluntary departures
  • people detained under immigration powers
  • immigration appeals
  • applications for an extension of stay, including settlement

Most of the data are taken from administrative records. However, the data on non-EEA national passenger admissions are compiled from a sample of landing cards. Non-EEA citizens are required to complete a landing card on entry to the United Kingdom
