Lagos Governor, Fashola in trouble as EFCC arrests Associate

Mr. Olowole Olatunji, a close associate of Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, was arrested this evening in Lagos by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC following its investigation into allegations of financial crimes levelled against the Lagos State governor, by a group known as the ‘True Face of Lagos.’

Lagos lawyer and counsel to the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Festus Keyamo had earlier said nothing would stop the House from probing allegations of financial misappropriation against Governor Babatunde Fashola.

He called on the governor to submit himself to probe in order to clear himself, saying there was no hiding through court injunction to dodge the probe against him.

Source at the agency said Olatunji, the owner of Deux Projects Limited, a company which was allegedly used as front by the Lagos State governor to execute inflated contracts was arrested after investigators discovered that 27 contracts were awarded the company from the state Ministry of Health while 3 came from the Ministry of Education.

So far, Deux Projects Limited has collected more than N10 billion naira from the state coffers, according to the source.

The source said investigation was still ongoing and that many more arrests are likely to be made in the coming days.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has also instituted a probe into the allegations of fraud and misappropriation of state funds made against the governor by a group, The True Face of Lagos.
