The Federal Government yesterday agreed to postpone the deadline for gas flaring to 2010 in order give time for the development of the gas sector. Oil companies in the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Country (OPEC) member country were supposed to have stopped gas flaring by the end of last year or face hefty fines. But the deadline has passed without any company being punished. Nigeria flares more gas than any other country except Russia, burning over 35 billion cubic feet of gas every month. The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday approved applications from six companies seeking to list securities worth N76 billion on the exchange. The issues are through listing by introduction, rights issue, placing and supplementary issue. read more
