Nigeria: Odey calls for climate Roundtable in States.

State Governors in the 36 states of the Federation have been urged to establish Climate Change Roundtable in their various states to help create national and state platforms to engage all stakeholders towards raising awareness and understanding of risks and opportunities associated with Climate Change in Nigeria.

This call was made by the Minister of Environment Mr. John Odey, in his keynote address at the occasion of the Inaugural National Climate Change Roundtable held in Abuja last week.

He said that the Roundtable became imperative as the issue of Climate Change is critical to our national sustainable development goals, the Seven Point Agenda of the present administration and the Millennium Development Goals, warning that Climate Change impacts will cover all the various sectors of our National growth and development.

“Climate Change is no longer a debatable issue. Following the report of the intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it became apparent that Climate Change is human induced and that all aspects of human development will be affected. This is why the issue of Climate Change has been placed firmly on local, national and international agenda and in the strategic planning of a growing number of business concerns,” Odey said.
