Pastor Dupes Lagos Businessman

Lagos: The desire to be rich has landed a businessman in serious trouble. The businessman, Boniface Nkwude, a food stuff seller at 21, Mayowa Street, Egbeda, Lagos, was allegedly duped by a self-acclaimed pastor, Uchenna Nwachukwu, on the false pretence of making him a successful businessman.

The victim reportedly parted with N250,000, but instead of his business being successful, it collapsed. P.M.NEWS gathered that the pastor approached the victim and offered to assist him in his business. The pastor asked him to bring money to buy spiritual items that he would use to make prayers against his (businessman) enemies. Boniface gave the pastor the money and in return the latter gave him a soap and oil to bath and rob after bathing.

The victim was said to have used it for some weeks, but nothing positive happened to his business, instead his clients started deserting his shop. He reported the matter at the Idimu police station and the suspect was arrested. During interrogation, the suspect confessed collecting N250,000 from the suspect and he was charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for obtaining money under false pretence. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties, while the matter was adjourned till 17 July, 2009. The offence he committed is contrary to sections 419, 390 of the Criminal Code. He was remanded at the Kirikiri maximum security prisons, Apapa, because he could not meet the bail conditions.
