The sack of five bank chief executives and their directors carried out six weeks ago by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) may remain contentious following opposition put forth by the House of Representatives, stakeholders and some Nigerians, as the Senate has summoned the apex bank’s governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mrs. Farida
Waziri and Minister of Justice and Attorney- General of the Federation, Chief Michael Aondoakaa over the issue.
The parley, to be held behind closed doors, followed a point of order raised by chairman of the chamber’s Committee on Banking and other Financial Institutions, Nkechi Nworgu on the matter. The CBN had sacked the bank top officials citing breach of financial regulations by them before revamping the affected institutions with a loan facility to the tune of N420 billion.
