Tribute To Late Gani Fawehinmi On The Occasion Of His Post-humous 72nd Birthday And The Turning Of The Sod Of Gani Fawehinmi Diagonist Centre On 22nd April, 2010.
Late Chief AbdulGaniyu Oyesola Fawehinmi, SAN lived and died for what he believed in and I
cannot help it again but to describe “Gani” as fondly called, by borrowing from indelible words of Late Rev. Martins Luther King:
“True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.”
Gani’s true compassion made him to do what was viewed as impossible, it made him to challenged the rolling tanks of the military junta, it made him to be detained more than any dead or living Nigerians, it made him to disguised himself as a woman to defend young students with bleak future, his true compassion gave him lung cancer when he was not even a smoker.
Late Gani Fawehinmi is our living icon, an avatar and an exceptional brand of Ondo State people as a people of principle, courage, warmth and industry.
No wonder, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, the Governor of Ondo honoured him with a comprehensive Diagnostic Centre and today he is performing the ground-breaking ceremony to coincide with the posthumous 72nd Birthday anniversary of the late legal icon.
Gani indeed was an exceptional brand of his home State, Ondo State and he is being emulated, remembered and celebrated by the extant leadership style of Dr. Olusegun Mimiko with various Caring Heart Projects.
Dr. Olusegun Mimiko without much ado is a true enthusiast of Gani’s true compassion for the people; no wonder the governor’s Caring Heart Projects are projects of true compassion gear towards raising the standard of living of the people, the very thing Gani Fawehinmi stood for during his life time.
Adieu Gani Fawehinmi.
