US deports 63 Nigerians

Lagos: The immigration services of the United States (US) yesterday deported 63 Nigerians for possession of illegal firearms and residing in the country illegally. The aircraft, that brought the deportees, a Boeing 737 with registration number N739MI, touched down at the Murtala

Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos about 11:15 am.

The deportees were from Miami, Florida. Among them were seven females and 56 males. They were immediately handed over to the Nigerian immigration services.

Sources hinted that most of the deportees had been residing in the US for two to 10 years.

Investigations revealed that 80 per cent of the deportees were illegal immigrants.

One of the deportees said he was arrested on his way to a super market, but confirmed that his immigration documents had expired for sometime now.
