Yakowa sworn-in as Kaduna governor

Nigeria: Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa has been sworn-in as governor.  He was sworn-in this afternoon at the General Usman Katsina House (State House), Kawo, by the state Chief Judge, Justice Rahila Cudjoe, at an elaborate ceremony witnessed by thousands of people, including former governors of the state, Senators Ahmed Mohammed

Makarfi, Calb Zegi and Isaiah Balat among others .

Speaking shortly after he was sworn-in, Yakowa said he would not operate as a Christian governor but as governor every indigene of the state, pointing out that everybody in Kaduna should see himself  or herself as brothers and sisters.

His speach came against the backdrop of grumblings by some fundamentalist Muslims against his swearing in because of his religion.

Yakowa, a minority Christian from Fadan Kagoma is the first Christain to become Governor of the state that has been sharply divided along religious lines since the introduction of Sharia law in some parts of the north about 10 years ago.
