3 Nigerian newspapers in trouble for defamatory publication against Capital Index


Three Nigerian newspapers – THISDAY, DAILY SUN and THE GUARDIAN Newspapers – will reappear in court on 13th December 2016 as Defendants in a defamation proceeding.

The Petitioners Advante, Capital Index and Collect Solutions ltd respectively all of 25a Trans Amadi had brought a claim at the FCT High Court, claiming 500 million Naira from Livingstone Wechie who is the first defendant and the three others.

Elombah.com had reported that around August 2015, the defendants published advertorials and reports and petitions to President Muhammadu Buhari, EFCC and ICPC alleging that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi through Advante, Collect Solutions and Capital Index ltd, diverted more than Seventy Billion Naira accruing from sales of Power Plants and Assets belonging Rivers state.

Capital Index and the two other companies thereafter instituted an action for defamation against Livingstone Wechie, the Integrity Group and the three Nigerian newspapers.
