$750,000 Lobbying Deal: Nnamdi Kanu’s search for foreign allies strikes confusion, fever in Aso Rock
By Kalu Nwokoro Idika
Details have emerged that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is presently in total shock and confusion after it was exclusively reported by Premium Times that the leader of the separatist movement (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has procured the services of a lobbying firm in the United States of America in order to advance the diplomatic base of the group.
According to Premium Times, the contracts is part of a secret and broad efforts by the group to win the support of the U.S. government, Congress, policymakers, and opinion molders for IPOB.
The mission of the lobbying firm include engaging the U.S. government, Congress and the Department of State and engaging policymakers on behalf of the movement.
$750,000, contract was signed by IPOB and the lobbying firm
The one-year deal is said to run for 12 months and is costing IPOB $750,000, which is over N300million at the current exchange rate of N410 to one U.S. dollar.
However, a source told Elombahnews that there is palpable fear in the presidency after the lobbying contract the Indigenous People Of Biafra signed with the US lobbying firm went viral online. There is serious rowdiness in the seat of power, as some are yet to come to terms over how IPOB was able to sign such a mind blowing lobbying contract without blinking an eyelid.
The news of the deal has forced President Muhammadu Buhari and his kitchen cabinet to fall back to the drawing board. The presidential think tanks are weighing possible diplomatic actions which could be taken against the group, the source said.
Although the entire situation appears to be very complex to the powers that be as the news of the lobbying deal seems to have rendered the previous efforts made to whittle down the influence of the movement at the international scene ineffective.
Strong decisions and measures will be taken
The Source also said strong decisions and measures will be taken by the presidency to tackle and counter any diplomatic front the group may be jostling to open in the United States, Europe and beyond. While unspecified amount have been mapped out for the counter diplomatic mission.
President Buhari counter diplomatic mission could amount to nothing!
It looks more obvious that the more President Buhari led administration run after the Indigenous People Of Biafra, the faster and crafty they become in their mode of operation.
In the last six years, the diplomatic onslaught of President Muhammadu Buhari and his government against the outlawed group seems more like an exercise in futility. Perhaps, the secessionist movement is still surging and bitting Nigeria from a worrisome angle.
IPOB which extended its troubling tentacles across the globe with a wide network of members will continue to constitute a threat to Nigeria. The ongoing diplomatic tussle between the government of Nigeria and IPOB has no end in sight as the two forces doesn’t look ready to surrender for a more persuasive answer to the impending political brouhaha.
Although, IPOB fever in the Presidential circle is rife. Buhari and his kitchen cabinet are in between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Many political and security experts have advised President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the issues raised by the agitators and stop chasing unnecessary shadows at the expense of a convoluted union that is in desperate need of political surgery.
