jettyAkwa Ibom State Government is working out modalities to establish International Jetty for the berthing of ferries conveying petroleum products to the state.

The move is to ease the stress of haulage the marketers go through in bringing petroleum products to the state.

Governor Emmanuel announced this during an interaction with members of the state chapter of Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) who called on him at Government House Uyo.

He said his administration has plans to accommodate every interest and that a conducive business climate is to be evolved to enable entrepreneurs break even in their ventures.

He announced plans to dredge the Mbo River to enable Cargo Vessels ply the water ways and supply Petroleum products to Tank Farms where the products are stored for sale at minimal cost. “We’re going to give you a depot that will be purely downstream where you can build tank farms, make use of the Jetty by storing and carrying out sales, this will minimise losses usually incurred and reduce the risk of transporting the product by road.”

Governor Emmanuel who decried the construction of Petrol Stations on unauthorized places maintained that they have contravened safety rules and town planning standards.

The State Chief Executive described IPMAN as developing partners and advised them to pull their resources together for a bulk purchase of the products to be dispensed to others at reduced rate.

While commending the initiative of IPMAN in enforcing the regulated price for dispensation of products, the Governor called on the Leadership of the Association to embrace dialogue by withdrawing the court case instituted against the state.

Earlier, the state Chairman of IPMAN Mr. Nseobong Umanah congratulated the Governor on the giant strides recorded within 100 days in office and declared the Association’s support to his government.

He requested for a revolving loan to enable them carryout their business as well as a land for them to establish a tank farm. The Association accepted a truce and dialogue on the pending court case with the State.
