A scar on Ortom will stir Igbos’ wrath, Ohanaeze Youths warn FG

The youth body of apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), has expressed shock over last Saturday’s attack and attempted murder of Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom by killers herdsmen.

The national president of OYC, Comrade Igboayaka O. Igboayaka spoke on the development in Owerri on Wednesday, 24th March 2021.

Comrade Igboayaka said it was more disturbing that a Fulani terror group identified as Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM), has openly claimed responsibility over the attack which poses serious threat on the life of the governor yet it appears the Federal government is shying away from the situation and turning away from the issue.

Extending his solidarity to the governor, Igboayaka warned that Ortom must not sustain any scar from any terror group in Benue state or any part of the country or the government will have Ndigbo to contend with, stressing that it’s quite unfortunate that Fulani nationality have declared war and ethnic cleansing against other ethnic nationalities.

Comrade Igboayaka urged the Fulani nationality elders and other patriotic Nigerians of Fulani extraction to rise up to their noble responsibility to stop this criminal and terrorism act from Fulani Nationality Movement or be ready to contend with other ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.

The Council warned Fulani Nationality Movement that there are over three hundred(300) villages of Igbo extraction in Benue state, therefore noted that time has gone when Igbos keep aloof and watch criminal elements perpetuating evil in Benue state, stressing that Igbos and other ethnic nationalities in Benue have learnt from history and more united today than in 1967 to 1970.

Comrade Igboayaka who strongly condemned the attack on the life of the governor, said it was aimed at eliminating the only voice in the Middle Belt in general and Benue State in particular, who have stamped his feet against all odds to salvage his people from the terror and mayhem of Fulani herders masquerading in the state.

“Governor Ortom has the democratic and constitutional powers to defend Benue state and her citizenry and no harm should come to him for executing his constitutional duties.

“We hereby demand that a thorough and transparent investigation be carried out in the case and the perpetrators fished out for prosecution to serve as deterrent to others who may contemplate attacking a sitting Governor or any tribe in the future

Ohanaeze Youth Council(OYC) therefore, call and also place the international community on notice with what is unfolding in Benue State,”

Chukwuemeka Chimerue,
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to OYC National President.
