Abaribe Arrest: Ohanaeze President Demands Immediate Release
Accuse army of disappearing of Nnamdi Kanu
The President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Chief John Nnia Nwodo has lashed out against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government over the arrest of Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe on Friday.
Chief Nwodo, in a statement made available to newsmen, exonerated Senator Abaribe from the demand that he produce the missing leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra [IPOB], Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
He stated categorically that “the circumstances prevailing at the time of the disappearance of Nnamdi Kanu are beyond the contemplation of the law that a surety can guarantee the production of an accused person”.
He said that “the army in the name of “Operation Python Dance” invaded Nnamdi’s home and destabilized normalcy there,” hence the army, not Abaribe should be held accountable for his disappearance.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General said that as things stand now, “only the security agency that can disclose Nnamdi’s whereabouts”.
Exonerating Senator Abaribe, he said that the lawmaker “has no capacity, nor has any surety in the circumstances to know the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu”.
Said Nwodo: “What happened in Umahia was an invasion, a war of a kind.
“Nnamdi may have been killed or captured in the imbroglio or even escaped into hiding.
“The onus lies on the security forces to disclose his whereabouts.
“The judiciary is beginning to tow the line of the executive by throwing the law overboard in matters that affect the South East.
“We are all equal before the law.”
He concluded by demanding in an affirmative tone that “Senator Abaribe must be released forthwith”!
The Senator was suddenly arrested yesterday by operatives of the Department of State Security [DSS] without notice or reason.
His house was thoroughly searched but nothing incriminating was found or at least disclosed to the public.
Nothing has been heard from or about the Senator ever since.
Senator Abaribe is a well-known critic of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration whom he accuses of incompetence and cluelessness.
