Adamawa Tribunal: Confusion As APC Factions Present Different Counsels
Faction seeks to discontinue petition
There was palpable confusion at the Adamawa State election petition tribunal as two factions of the All Progressives Congress [APC] presented two different counsels during hearing on Tuesday.
Barrister Eze Okoye initially led a team of lawyers who announced appearance for the APC.
APC Vice Chairman, Aliyu Bakari, however, announced appearance for the party alongside Smart Ukpanah, thereby, causing a stir in the court room.
Meanwhile, the State APC Treasure, Mohammed Adamu, took side with the Okoye-led legal team.
One of the factions filed a motion seeking to discontinue the case at the tribunal challenging the victory of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as the winner of the governorship election in 2019.
After the motion of withdrawal was mentioned, Barrister Okoye, objected and told the tribunal that he has filed a counter motion on behalf of his client, the APC.
In the ensuing commotion, chairman of the tribunal, Justice, A.A. Adebara rebuked both factions.
Justice Adebara asked the opposing APC counsels to go and sort things out among themselves and adjourned the matter until July 15, 2019, for the hearing of both the motion and the substantive matter.
