Adesina Demands Cancellation of NBA Election
Dele Adesina, a candidate in the election of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA),has petitioned the electoral committee of the association, demanding for the cancellation of the election.
The NBA election, which commenced at 11 pm on Wednesday, is scheduled to end at 11 pm on Thursday.
In the petition addressed to Tawo Tawo, chairman, electoral committee of the NBA, Adesina claimed the ongoing poll was being marred by over-voting, disenfranchisement of some eligible voters and non-compliance with the provisions of the NBA constitution.
The Petition reads, “I want to put on record my profound appreciation for the big work we have done.
“First and foremost, for our Profession and, secondly, for me. Your support for me is massive.
” Your loyalty and commitment to the cause is total.
“Your belief in me in terms of my capacity to perform, my determination to succeed and my dedication to securing the future of our Profession is absolute. For these and many more, I thank you.
” We have conducted a clean, civilised and professional campaign. From the beginning to the end, we acted professionally by what we said and by what we did.
“That is how it should be. Leadership is responsibility.
“It was our belief that the Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the leadership of the Association will organise a free, fair and credible election capable of changing the narrative of NBA election in recent years.
“The event between 11:00 pm yester-night and today has proved us wrong and showed that we assumed too much.
“Once again, the sensibility of the well-meaning members of this otherwise honourable and noble Profession has been brutally assaulted through another electoral fraud and reckless manipulation of the NBA Electoral Process.
” It is a shame.
“Our I.T. Consultants have informed us among other things that the data uploaded to the site was programmed and preconfigured to achieve a predetermined result in an obvious case of diddling.
“We are determined to query the data uploaded be rest assured that we are well able to defend the honour and the integrity of the Bar. This fraud shall not stand.”
