Anambra 2021: Why Soludo should succeed Obiano —Victor Umeh
By Toby Chuks
Former National Chairman of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Senator Victor Umeh has thrown up more light on why the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Professor Charles Soludo is being fronted by leaders and relevant stakeholders of APGA to succeed the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano through the 2021 governrorship election in Anambra State.
Senator Umeh who spoke extensively at his residence in Aguluzoigbo when he hosted Soludo and his large supporters stated that the former CBN Governor holds the ace when it comes to the qualities needed to retain the governrorship seat under APGA, consolidate the legacies of the founding fathers of APGA and to drive Anambra properously amid the growing economic hardship in Nigeria.
The former Senator observed that every well meaning member of APGA in particular and well meaning Anambrarians in general know that the challenges facing Anambra, the Light of the Nation demand for someone like Soludo who is widely connected globally, noting that Soludo is not just capable of winning the election for APGA but also well groomed enough to consolidate good governance which APGA is well known for in the State.
He added “in the first place, Soludob is the ideal candidate for us because he has the popularity and acceptablilty we need to win the election. Secondly, we need someone like him to deal with the rising economic challenges in Nigeria using his wide connection all over the world to source for finance to run the State. He is connected to all notable financial institutions all over the world and thirdly he can take advantage of his global outreach to attract foreign investors to Anambra State”
The ex APGA National Chief repeatedly told the party failthful that they have a huge responsibility to make sure that APGA does not just remain alive and bubbling but also fulfilling the vision and mission of the founding father of the party late Biafran warlord Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu who nurtured the party for the progress of Ndigbo in Nigeria politics. He went down memory lane to echo how the late Biafra warlord and ikemba of Nnewi suffered to build APGA to the extent of boarding a faulty helicopter to attend party function.
He continued “what drives me to work for APGA all the days of my life is that Ojukwu repeatedly told me as National Chairman not to allow APGA to die and I will never allow the party to die. The reason why I have decided to support Soludo is that I am sure that APGA is in safe hand under him and I also want all of us here to see things that way and support Soludo to emerge as the next governor of Anambra State and also the next leader of our great party”
While dismissing a report making round in the social media that he (Umeh) said that Soludo is not electable, he revealed that Governor Obiano has made it clear before the leaders and stakeholders of the party that Soludo is the right choice to stand for APGA in the 2021 race to Agu Awka urging those who are still in doubt on where the governor would pitch his tent to believe him as the horse’s mouth.
He maintained “They wrote something that I said that Soludo is not electable, but I cannot speak such language. Here I am declaring my total support for Soludo for governor so that makes it clear that the report is fake as a product of mischief makers. Lastly for your information, around February, His Excellency Governor Willie Obiano, invited me and made it clear to me that Soludo is going to be the candidate of our great party for the November 6 election, so stop doubting about the position of Obiano because he is for Soludo”
Other speakers which includes member Federal House of Representatives Hon Dozie Nwankwo, Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly Rt Hon Uchenna Okafor, Chief of Staff to Governor Willie Obiano Mr Primus Odili and BoT members of APGA confirmed the support of Obiano to Soludo and offered to do their best to ensure that the ex CBN Chief takes over the helm of affairs at Agu Awka after the expiration of Obiano’s tenure.
In his response Soludo thanked Umeh and others for making open their believe in him expressing his readiness to give Ndi Anambra the kind of leadership they are yearning for when elected adding that he has been under pressure from other political parties that want him to run under their platform but he has made up his mind to run under APGA.
