Anambra Govt closes River Niger Bridge, Onitsha
The Anambra State Government has announced the closure of River Niger Bridge Onitsha from 7pm, effective from Friday, June 5, 2020.
This was contained in a public service announcement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu.
Professor Chukwulobelu stated:
“Anambra State Government wishes to inform the public that effective today, Friday 5th June 2020, COVID-19 enforcement and security teams will be restricting traffic onto the Niger Bridge by 7pm until further notice.
“This is as a result of operational curfew hours in place in Delta State which runs from 7pm to 6am.
“Curfew in other parts of Anambra state is still from 10pm to 4am.
“All concerned are to take note please.”
Recall that the Anambra States Government had barricaded the River Niger Bridge last month leaving pedestrians and commuters stranded.
The move followed the lockdown occasioned by the Covid19 pandemic which threw the nation and the world at large into panic.
The barricade, however, was swiftly dismantled by their Delta State counterpart allowing for free passage.
