Anambra Pentecostal Churches set standard for Obiano’s successor, holds leadership retreat in Awka
Vows to unleash the strength of Pentecostal Churches at polling units; declares 3 day Prayer Summit against insecurity
Ahead of the 2021 governorship election in Anambra State, those aspiring to be the next governor of the State have got a stringent quality standard set by the leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) in the State to meet just as the Christian body has come up with the quality expected from the next Governor of the State who will take over from the incumbent Governor Willie Obiano via the November 6 poll.
The Anambra PFN under Bishop Ezedebego set the standard during a 3 day Executive Leadership Retreat held at their Secretariat in Awka, the State capital. The retreat which was well attended by all the leaders of the Fellowship from across the State including representatives of the various organs of the Christian body such as the women wing know as WOWIPFN and youth wing known as YOWIPFN was aimed at providing effective response to the challenges facing the body of Christ in particular and the State in general
Addressing journalists on the out come of the program, Bishop Ezedebego explained that the retreat was to strengthen the leadership structure of the Fellowship, build capacity and get the leaders ready for more exploits in the kingdom of God noting that Pentecostal Churches in the State are growing in leaps and bounds and consquently shouldn’t lag behind in service for the welfare of the State.
He added “Growth requires a lot of wisdom to harness its potentials and manage the challenges that also come with it. We’re also preparing our leaders for the challenges facing the Churches. Last year witnessed the sudden outbreak of Covid 19. It took everyone unawares. So preparation is part of an effective way of living a vibrant life”
At this juncture, he hinted that PFN leadership is getting prepared for the incoming governorship election in the State and thus the Fellowship is a after a quality standard candidate who is capable enough to provide good leadership needed to move Anambra forward noting that the body of Christ should be much more concerned about who governs the people in its jurisdiction.
According to him ‘We must be deeply thoughtful and prayerful on who becomes the next Executive Governor of Anambra State after His Excellency Chief Dr Willie Obiano. We must consider these qualities such as Competence, Godliness with contentment, Character, Capacity to manage human and natural resources and Humility
Other qualities he listed are: visionary and foresightedness, bold and courageous, a person of honest report of relationship with the poor and the needy and track record of philanthropic services, a person of wisdom and understanding of the current bad situation in Nigeria and how redeem it, a person who believes in equity, fairness and justice, a person who posseses the ingredients of a skillful and creative leader.
He continued “We must reject a religious fanatic; someone who promotes one denomination above and against others. We need someone who will unite all Anambrarians not minding their religious inclinations. We don’t need a Governor for Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Pentecostal Churches, African Instituted Churches.
“We need a Governor of the people, by the people and for the people. We must be deeply prayerful and watchful to discover those who divide us into religious and denominational lines to reject and vote them out. We are praying that the coming election in Anambra State must be peaceful and I want to assure you that we shall deal with voters apparthy and unleash the full strength of our members at polling units in all round the State.
In the same vein, Bishop Ezedebego also announced the Anambra PFN has declared three days Prayer Summit in response to the current state of insecurity in the country especially in the South East and coming gubernatorial election in Anambra State.
