Anambra citizens, especially those resident within the central senatorial zone woke up to the smiling gap-toothed picture of the immediate past governor, Chief Peter Obi’s senatorial campaign posters formally announcing his entry into the rescheduled race on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The bemused citizens most of who were halted in their hurried way to church service within the Central Senatorial constituency amidst the rains involuntarily took out some time to savour the posters at Nkpor, Nnobi, Ogidi and Awka.
The only type of the colourful posters which has circulated so far has the inscription, “Peter Obi k’anyi choro”, literally meaning, ‘it’s Peter Obi we desire’.
Many of those who reacted over the emergence of the Obi posters expressed regret that they were tactically and intentionally placed over those of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the same election, Chief Victor Umeh.
Chief Umeh was reported to have maintained that Obi was not legally qualified to contest in the election pointing out that he has already gone to court to challenge it.
He stated that his actions was not because he was afraid to run side by side with Obi, but “but because he does not qualify to contest.”
Hear him, ” Of course if he contests, I will beat him hands down, but the law is very clear that this is a rerun, and only persons and parties that took part in the first election can contest now…”, Umeh said.
He therefore described as unfortunate the moves by some people to arm twist INEC into fielding Peter Obi for PDP in the election, which would not pass the litmus test of the law courts thereafter.
