APC National Chairmanship: Again Governors Back Oshiomhole
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors’ Forum have again thrown their weight behind former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, for election as national chairman at the National Congress coming up June 23.
The governors had paid a solidarity visit Oshiomhole at his campaign office in Abuja as a show of support and solidarity.
Addressing newsmen during the visit, Kebbi State governor, Abubakar Bagudu said all the governors of the Forum are behind Oshiomhole.
Bagudu said: “All of us in the party are looking forward to the chairmanship of Adams Oshiomole.
“He has experience in various aspects of national life.
“We are all confident that party is a structure that is necessary for the continuous evolution and maintenance of democracy.
“His collective experience in the recent past as executive governor of Edo State, one of the most successful leaders of trade unions, and a democratic activist all his life…
“These qualities will be brought to bear in achieving the ideals of the APC.
“So we believe he will be a leader, he will be the embodiment of the spirit of the party and the experience will help him to make contribution to governance.”
Speaking further, he said: “I am not the chairman of the Progressives Governor’s Forum.
“But I can tell you that Adams Oshiomhole is my candidate as a governor and all the governors I know, he is their candidate for chairmanship.
“We believe that we have identified someone who can do the job and will be able to start and in that spirit to demonstrate by coming together.
“We believe he is the best fit for the job.”
Other party leaders present at the campaign include Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Ondo State governor, Ibikunle Amosun, Kano state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje and Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
Other are Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa, and Plateau state governor Simon Lalong.
Recently, Chief Ibrahim Emokpaire stepped down for Adams Oshiomhole APC national chairmanship tussle.
Meanwhile, Oshiomhole’s ambition suffered a little blight on Thursday when a human rights activist and Anti-Corruption crusader based in Benin City, Bishop (Dr) Osadolor Ochei JP, dragged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court over Oshiomhole.
In the suit it was revealed that Oshiomhole embezzled Edo State funds.
Among other things, Ochei stated that he built a sprawling mansion worth more than N10 billion naira in his home town known as Iyanho, Edo State with state funds.
It was also revealed that he bought a property along Okoro-Otun Avenue, G.R.A., Benin City owned by Edo State Government while serving as Governor of Edo State.
He also awarded highly inflated contract and payment within a relatively short time for the construction of 168 hostels rooms in Edo State University, Iyamho for the sum of N1.88 billion naira.
Reacting to the mountain of allegation on Oshiomole, an analyst with ElombahNews added that “people need to ask Oshiomole how he was able to acquire that majestic mansion on River Niger Street in Maitama, Abuja, as a labour leader”.
