The Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] has accused the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State of sponsoring thugs to barricade the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
This was contained in a PDP press statement issued on Wednesday, November 30, 2016, by the National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye.
According to Prince Adeyeye, the thugs stopped the Commission from tendering the Original Results of the Saturday July 23, 2016 and Thursday July 28, 2016 Imo North Senatorial Re-Run Election.
The statement reads:
Our attention has been drawn to the activities of some thugs contracted by the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State that surrounded and barricaded the State Secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and stopped the Commission from tendering the Original Results of the Saturday July 23, 2016 and Thursday July 28, 2016 Imo North Senatorial Re-Run Election.
This action has once again confirmed our earlier assertion that the Senatorial Re-Run Election was rigged in favour of the Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Mr. Ben Uwajumogu.
Otherwise, the presence of thugs trying to stop the submission of the Original Results by the INEC is completely unnecessary.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) since it assumed power in May 2015 has employed all manner of tactics in rigging elections and seriously working in cohorts with agents of darkness to destroy our hard earned democracy and destabilize the unity of our great Country, Nigeria.
We call on the security agencies in Imo State to quickly arrest this situation and allow the Commission to exercise its statutory mandate.
It is incumbent on the Electoral Umpire to provide evidence beyond all reasonable doubt on the Election it conducted.
No amount of harassment and intimidation will stop us from defending the people’s mandate which was freely and massively given to our Candidate, Mr. Athan Achonu.
We believe that justice will be done.
God bless the Senatorial District! God bless Imo State!! God bless Nigeria!!!
