APGA Crisis Is About Anambra 2022 Guber Ticket, Says Oye

As Court stops factional chairman, Edozie Njoku From Chuks Collins, Awka

A new shocking dimension has been introduced into the on-going crisis rocking the leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA).

The national chairman, Ozonkpu Victor Oye disclosed that the whole dust was a mere smokescreen by individuals who want the party’s 2022 governorship ticket in Anambra state.

Addressing journalists who thronged him in Awka before jetting back to Abuja Headquarters of the party yesterday, Oye revealed that most of the key players in the mudslinging show were persons who have outlived their days and relevance in the party, but have insisted in remaining in charge and to drag APGA down with themselves.

The chairman also disclosed that the Abuja High Court has stopped one Mr Edozie Njoku the self acclaimed factional national chairman from parading himself as the party’s chairman whatsoever.

According to him, the party’s last national convention in Awka which was witnessed and observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) Chairman Prof Abubakar Mahmood and his directors officially reelected him and other national officers.

The Convention and decisions taken were all according to the strict dictates of the party’s extant rules.

Hear him, “The INEC chairman was represented by a director -Prof Anthonia Simbile, two assistant directors, and one Head of Administration. We had 1650 delegates drawn from all states and geopolitical zones of the federation.

“We also approved a new party Constitution as approved by the NEC and Convention. The Convention of the party is our highest decision making organ. It implies that any decision taken by the Convention supersedes whatever other decisions taken by any other organ of the party”, Chief Oye emphasized.

Throwing more light to the whole drama and accusations were in view and pursuit of the Anambra state 2022 guber election. That those making the wild accusations actually wanted to control the politics of the state as they are afraid their governorship ambition won’t fly with him, in view of the announcement by the party that it has zoned its 2022 governorship election ticket to Anambra South Senatorial district.

That the rabble-rousers had wanted to remove the national executive and install a stooge/puppet as the new national chairman. Someone they would continue to manipulate and control on end. Someone who would just be a figurehead while they stay by the side remote-controlling and dictating to him.

“So, that was the whole game. That when they oppose my return as the national chairman, they would then move the position to another state, pick and foist their stooge and puppet on the party. They would from all angles hold the person by the jugular while he performs all their bidding no matter how anomalous or bizarre. He would remain their everlasting revenue source”, Oye pointed out.

He also told the journalists that within the coming days, “our APGA-owned national Secretariat would be unveiled in the Maitama Area of Abuja. This is what they could not achieve in the past since the inception of the party, despite the huge party resources then. I have achieved this feat within four years.

“Our present headquarters is a rented building so we have gone ahead to acquire our own building. It’s in Maitama District, not Mabushi, Mararaba or Kubwa. Everyone will be invited during the opening next month.

“So all the vitriolic attacks against me are all about Anambra 2022 governorship election ticket. And one may wonder why it was him that is complaining about a claim that doesn’t concern him.”

The former national chairman of the party Senator Victor Umeh had recently in a well-circulated letter to Gov Willie Obiano as the Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman of APGA accused Oye of some financial impropriety especially during the Oct 2018 primaries of the party.

Repeated calls and text messages to Chief Umeh for her further comment were not answered, replied or acknowledged.
