APP Ebonyi: Ban On Motorcycle (Okada) Not Best Easter Gift

The dynamic chapter of our great party, Action Peoples Party(APP),Ebonyi state is aware of the numerous measures but in place by the central government of Nigeria and the government of Ebonyi state since the breakout of the deadly coronavirus and the subsequent declaration of the pandemic as a global emergency by the World health organization (WHO). Commendably, the government in some levels have shown willingness in containing the spread of the virus. Beautifully the government of Ebonyi state has been proactive and we sincerely salute them.

Thanks to the Almighty, at the last count our dear state yet don’t have a confirmed case. We pray the status-quo remain untouched.

Our great party is provoked and dismayed with some decisions of the state government lately of which recent is the lifting of ban of church activities and the ban of motorcycle (okada) movement in the state.

The news about the lifting of ban of church worship came to us with utmost shock leaving us to wonder what could have influenced the governor to that decision? This is when states is tightening the lockdown in their various states to ensure the virus don’t sow deep root in their domain! Maybe the governor felt that since the state is yet to record a case it signifies that the state is purely negative to the covid-19 forgetting that the incubation period for the virus is 14days? States like Anambra, Kwara,Delta all recorded their first single confirmed cases this week.
We then want to ask,why the haste to reopen the churches?

Advisably, we beg the state government to without hesitation direct the continue close down of churches and other places of worship in the state till will finally arrest Coronavirus scourge in the state and country. No time for pretense,we are all Christians and Christ admonished us to be wise like serpents!

In a second hand, the latest ban on movement of Motorcycle (Okada) at this harsh time is insensitive, unwise, exhibition of weakness, display of ignorance and a referendum on nefarious activities cum criminality. On what ever may become the reason behind this ban we call for an immediate reverse.

APP says this ban is not a best Easter gift to Ndi-Ebonyi. Security agencies and the government security outfit should be mandated to mount surveillance on areas government feels are porous and has made entry possible to the state than subjecting the citizens to what will be greater than coronavirus. Emotional trauma is most dangerous than any virus!

The sober truth is that this is a time of total repentance, prayer and sober reflections. We should all go back to God in prayers and he will heal our land. Let us adhere to all the precautionary measures by medical health workers, most importantly the social distancing.

We commend the state government for her action plan of Engaging pupils and students through classes on radio stations and Television stations while the observe the partial lockdown, we advocate that similar measures be extended to students of the state owned tertiary institutions by digitalizing lectures through an online system.

We wishes Ndi-Ebonyi both at home and abroad Happy Easter celebration. Please stay safe and prayerful.

Engr. Chinedum Elekwachi
State Chairman, APP
