Appeal court upholds Akeredolu electoral victory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has on Wednesday June 16, 2021, dismissed the appeal filed by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last governorship election in the state as Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP filed against Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The state election petition tribunal had earlier struck out the petition of the PDP candidate for lack of merit. Yet, Jegede approached the appellate court challenging the verdict of the tribunal.

After examining the seven grounds of appeal tabled by the appellant, the appeal court dismissed the appeal, saying it lacked merit.
