We, at the APGA THINK-TANK, NIGERIA commend the South-East Governors for their immediate response to the existential threat to the lives of the Igbo peoples living outside the South-East Nigeria territory, particularly in the Northern Nigeria, through their organization to engage Luxurious buses to ferry the South-Easterners home, secondary to the threat by the Arewa Youth Group.
We commend the Governors on their spontaneous efforts to check any threat to Human life and dignity in Nigeria secondary to the likely denial of the means of livelihood, shelter and general hospitality which may edify the Human life.
At the APGA THINK-TANK, NIGERIA, We thank the Governor of Kaduna State on his intervention to arrest any situation which may lead to the loss of Human lives. We however, are perplexed by the History of a Governor who would foster his ethnic hegemony in our Nigeria body politic. We would refer the Governor to page 23 Annex II of his Memo April 2015 to President-Elect Buhari, – where his Northern Nigeria imperium notions were not hidden.
We would also refer the Governor to his endorsement of a communique after the meeting of the 19 Northern Governors in April 2016, at the height of the Fulani herdsmen Killings of Igbo Villagers at Ukpabi-Nimbo, Enugu State. Governor Nasir El-Rufai, instead of apologising for the offensive attack on the Igbo families and communities in their homeland, was rather a signatory to a communique which excerpts read thus, below:
“It goes beyond Fulani. If anything happens, they say Fulani herdsmen. To me, it is an insult. Kidnapping in this country originated in the Southeast, were they called Igbo kidnappers? We have a great national challenge and we want to call on all and sundry to come and let us solve our common challenges as a people, because the blood of paternity that binds us together supersedes whatever differences that might divide us.”
It took a tart response from the APGA THINK-TANK, NIGERIA to have the Chairman of the Northern Governor’s Forum Alhaji Kashim Shettima, to visit and condole with the Enugu State Government two (2) days later. We cannot be insensitive with inflammatory commentary when the obvious assault is at stake especially among ethnic Nigerians.
A Governor who demonstrates ethnic insensitivity, and has difficulty with taking responsibility during inter ethnic conflicts cannot suddenly be waving the truce flag.
Uh! Uh! Something is wrong here.
We are also wary of a Governor whose benefactors have described him as a backstabber, bare-faced liar, unstable,
“… the worst being his inability to be loyal to anybody or any issue consistently for long… “. “… his inability to give honour to whom honour is due.” He (EL-Rufai) is a pathological purveyor of untruths and half-truths with little or no regard for integrity.” The complete publication of Ex- President Obasanjo’s comments and reactions to El-Rufai’s memoirs published last year are still in the public realm. Obasanjo notes Nasir EL-Rufai to have betrayed his foster Father, and Half-brothers respectively. And these are supposed to be his closest family relations! The former EFCC Chairman – Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, labeled the Governor as one with “human integrity deficiency….”. Whither the Igbo?
It is such evaluation from close confidantes that makes all doubtful of the Governor’s true motives.
We, at the APGA THINK-TANK, NIGERIA, ask the South-East Governors not to shelve their plans to evacuate South-Easterners should the need arise. It is our opinion that the effort to continue the gradual movement of any voluntary returnees, who are so moved to return to the South-East peacefully, to resume normal life activity should continue and not be rescinded. This will dissipate any refugee like crisis.
We must learn to continue to look after ourselves. Being our Brothers and Sisters keepers’ is the goal.
Domicile security in Nigeria is not negotiable, and No Nigerian should be subject to that threat.
