Army To Convert Sambisa To Tourist Center, Arrest Nasarawa Militias

Set Up Media Operation Centre For Operation Last Hold


The Nigerian Army is to collaborate with National Park Service and Borno State Government to turn Sambisa forest to tourist centre to attract tourists into the country.

The disclosure was made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai during a press briefing.

He said the move will boost the image of the Army as well as boost the country’s tourism industry.

In another press release by Director Army Public Relations,  Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the Nigerian Army has set up a Media Operation Centre for the ongoing Operation LAST HOLD in the North East.

The Centre is established to coordinate all matters relating to media activities as well as dissemination of useful and timely information to the general public.

The operation is expected to last 4 months commencing from 1st May 2018 and it entails deployment of additional 4 maneouvre brigades.

The end state of Operation LAST HOLD is the total defeat of Boko Haram Terrorists to facilitate the restoration of fishing, farming and other economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin.

The Media Centre will coordinate all information emanating from the theatre in both traditional and social media platforms for prompt and adequate dissemination of information to ensure the successful conduct of the operation.

The Centre will be coordinated by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nuhu Angbazo, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai.

The Nigerian Army wishes to reiterate its loyalty and subordination to the civil authority at all times while carrying out its constitutional roles.

The Army will continue to uphold its core values of loyalty, courage, professionalism, discipline, and sacrifice in the interest of a united and prosperous Nigeria.

In another development, troops of 177 Guards Battalion on 24 April 2018 in conjunction with the Nigeria Police while on raid operation in Ugyi town, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State arrested some suspected militias.

The suspects who are all from Gbassa tribe of the state include:

  1. Mr James Job.
  2. Usman Unani

c Samson Baba.

  1. Muhammad Sani.
  2. Dauda Gimba.
  3. Items recovered include:
  4. One Daihatsu SUV jeep.
  5. Seven motorcycles.
  6. Six Dane guns
  7. One locally made revolver pistol.
  8. Four 9mm rounds of ammunition and a cartridge
  9. Twenty six daggers wish names and phone numbers written on each
  10. One sword.
  11. Forty pieces of customized regalia.
  12. A cash of one thousand two hundred and five naira only as well as assorted charms.

Preliminary investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authority on completion of the investigation.

Chukwu urged the general public to report any suspicious movements to the law enforcement agents for necessary action.
