The governor of the Sahel region of Burkina Faso, Col.-Maj. Salfo Kaboré, on Tuesday ordered the closure of gold panning sites in the provinces of Oudalan and Yagha, due to terrorist attacks on the sites, PANA learned from official sources on Wednesday.
“Artisanal gold mining sites are closed and all activities related to gold mining are suspended on the said sites throughout the provinces of Oudalan and Yagha for a period of three months, from January 15 to April 14, 2021,” Gov. Salfo Kaboré said in a statement.
Armed terrorist groups, which appeared in 2015 in Burkina Faso, regularly attack mining convoys and gold panning sites. (PANA/NAN)
