Pastor Bakare denies approaching Buhari for Adeosun
Says he was at Vila for other purpose, Presidency denies meeting
The Leader of Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has denied meeting President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, behind closed door with the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun.
Pastor Bakare who arrived the presidential villa, at about 2.30p.m, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, denied insinuations that Mrs Adeosun ran to him to speak to the President on her behalf.
Bakare, former running mate to Buhari as then presidential candidate under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), in 2011, also denied he was led into the president’s office by the minister.
Though he admitted being at the presidential villa, Bakare said the minister went on to see someone else in the Villa while he went into a closed door meeting with President Buhari alone to thank him for sending a powerful delegation to my mother’s Home-going Celebration.
The story published by some social and print media today is both cheap & sensational journalism. Hon. Min. Kemi Adeosun & I arrived at the Villa at different times. We met at the corridor. She went on to see someone else in the Villa and I went into a closed door meeting with PMB alone to thank him for sending a powerful delegation to my mother’s Home-going Celebration. This is the truth. The impression being created is as if she ran to me to speak to the President on her behalf. This impression is erroneous and false. I will appreciate that my side of the story is also published. Many Thanks. — Tunde Bakare.
Meanwhile the presidency also told Elombah News that “Stories with insinuations making the rounds that Pastor Tunde Bakare of Latter Rain Assembly and Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, met together with President Muhammadu Buhari at State House, Abuja, Friday is Far from the truth.
In a statement signed by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media and Publicity) and dated July 13, 2018, the state house stated that “the Minister was at the Presidential Villa in connection with the Annual General Meeting and 25th Anniversary Celebration of African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK) holding Saturday in Abuja, which would be graced by President Buhari.
“She ran into Pastor Bakare, who was on a scheduled visit to see the President, and they exchanged pleasantries. The cleric particularly thanked the Minister for finding time to attend his mother’s funeral, which took place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, penultimate weekend.
“Mrs Adeosun had seen President Buhari not fewer than three times earlier in the week, and did not need to meet with him again on Friday.
“This statement is to put events in proper perspective, and dispel all conjectures and fictive reporting”, the statement concluded.
