A Kenya-based Non-Governmental Organisation [NGO], CitizenGO, has demanded the immediate ban of Ban Big Brother Naija over nudity and pornography.
According to CitizenGO, “nudists and advocates of free sex and promiscuity will have achieved a lot if this programme continues to run in the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“The most unlucky thing is that the same can be watched on YouTube and other social media platforms.
“Besides the nudity scenes, the reality show encourages abuse of alcohol and betting, everything that is ailing our society.
“It is very unfortunate that Nigerians have to demand to be protected from evil content yet the National Film and Video Censors Board claims to be doing its job.”
The rather pornographic Big Brother Naija which is part of Big Brother Africa has caused anger and disgust in Nigeria with many citizens feeling exposed and unprotected.
CitizenGO stated that the programme is not only inappropriate but nasty as no responsible citizen can watch it’s contents without having to swiftly change the channel.
“This is a programme that you can’t watch with family as it is pure pornography,” stated the NGO.
To that effect, CitizenGO has launched a petition to the CEO of The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Alhaji Adedayo Thomas.
The petition can be signed online via this LINK.
Condemning the inaction on Alhaji Thomas over the perceived gross violation in Nigeria’s airspace, CitizenGo noted:
“The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), was established by Act 85 of 1993 as the official regulatory agency for the film and video sector of the Nigerian economy.
“It prides itself as the body responsible for protecting Nigerians from harmful content but is this the case? Are Nigerian children and families protected?
“The Nigerian public expects that this reality TV be regulated and censored and banned if it flauts the laws and policies , this has not been done.”
The NGO enjoined all to sign the petition and ask the CEO of National Film and Video Censors Board to act immediately and ban Big Brother Naija henceforth or resign.
See attached a copy of the petition to Alhaji Adedayo Thomas CEO NFVCB:
Dear Alhaji Adedayo Thomas,
I am very disappointed that your board has allowed the continued airing of pornographic Big Brother Naija to Nigerians despite the very strong and high level of moral standards by the Nigerian citizens.
The continued airing of Big Brother Naija indicates your approval for indecency, satanism, immorality, irresponsibility, promiscuousness, and most of all, disrespect to the Nigerian culture.
The contents of this show are always available on social media after the show and they attribute a lot to moral decadence to our youth and sky rocketing immorality.
With this email I ask you sir, to call off this disgusting programme on Nigerians Television screens or resign immediately as you have failed in your role to protect the citizenry from very inappropriate content.
Kindly act immediately.
