Benin Court remands Igboho for holding fake passport [update]

The embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has been remanded at Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou, Benin Republic.
Chief Igboho was arraigned before the Cour D’Appel De Cotonou on Thursday over immigration-related offences by Benin government authorities.
Igboho appeared in court for immigration-related offences after he and his wife, Ropo, were interrogated by Beninese security operatives on Wednesday and Thursday.
He appeared in court again on Friday and the case was adjourned till Monday, July 26.
According to sources, Igboho is facing charges over allegation of holding a fake passport with which he was to board a flight to Europe.
He was arrested at at Cardinal Bernardin International Airport, Cotonou, on July 19, 2021.
Meanwhile, his wife, a German citizen, was released and her passport returned by an order of the court.
Igboho and his wife have been in custody since their arrest as they attempted to board a flight to Germany.
Recall that Igboho was declared wanted on July 2 after a raid on his Ibadan residence by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) but he escaped arrest.
DSS sources informed ElombahNews that the Nigerian government has not filed extradition charges against Igboho.
According to the source, the Nigerian government requested their Benin Republic counterpart to hold him pending the time criminal charges will be filed against him in a Nigerian court.
He said that Nigeria will request his repatriation to face charges.
