Senate on Tuesday ordered Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to arrest , , apprend the perpetrators of killings of 73 people in Benue state within fourteen days.
The lawmakers also asked the the Attorney General of Benue State to prosecute those involved in the killings.
Senate resolution was as a result of amendment of report of Ad-hoc committee on the review of the current security infrastructures in Nigeria chaired by Senator Ahmad Lawan.
In the report of the committee on obtained by our correspondent revealed that some faceless people are sponsoring and harbouring the well trained Foregin mercenary elements and using them to unleash violence and criminality in Nigeria’s rural space.
The report added that the crisis has its origin in competition for access to natural resources such as land, water and pasture has been aggravated and fuelled by proliferation of fire arms.
The report also revealed that the presence of security forces is very thin on the ground or completely absent.
In addition, the report said in few places where the security forces are deployed, they are undermanned and underequiped and easily over run by better trained and equipped militia and foreign marauding.
