Between Obiano & Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who is an ‘accidental leader?’

By Eneh Victor Chigozie

It is unfortunate that while the spread of corona virus has thrown panic and fear amongst our people especially as government is shutting down everywhere and closing people’s businesses in order to curtail the spread and minimise social contacts, Governor Willie Obiano is more concerned in his continued political antagonism against Senator Dr Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah.

I have read some publications where a close aide to Governor Obiano, one Evang Chinedu Obigwe, Akaekpuchionwa na Aguleri, the man who enslaved himself as the leader of APGA media warriors called Senator Ifeanyi Ubah an “accidental senator.”

This particular Governor’s aide began to call senator Ifeanyi Ubah an accidental senator since the Court of Appeal Abuja on March 19, 2020 nullified the procured judgement of the Kubwa area high court and affirmed the YPP senator as the duly elected senator of Anambra south senatorial zone.

Evang Chinedu Obigwe is very close to gov Obiano that he speaks the mind of the governor through his many uncoordinated and sponsored publications in both print and social media. His action is a sign that Agu Awka had wanted the judgement to go the order way, but they should be reminded that “na maduaburochukwu.”

This takes me to the topic of this post: Between gov Obiano and Senator Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, who is an ‘accidental leader?’

An accidental leader from my understanding is someone that don’t necessarily set out to become leader but through “good luck” or “being in the right place at the right time” fall into the role.

With the above definition, can Evang Chinedu Obigwe reaccess his understanding of who is an accidental leader between Governor Obiano, his pay master, and Senator Ifeanyi Ubah.

It is a known fact that Senator Dr Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah prepared, consulted, campaigned vigorously and won his election as the senator for Anambra South Senatorial Zone.

He won his closest rival with about 30,000 votes. He won at the polling units. He was voted for by the people of Anambra south senatorial zone.

Before becoming a Senator, Ifeanyi Ubah had contested for the governorship election of Anambra state in 2013 and 2017.

To show that he was prepared to represent ndi Anambra south, he has performed exceptionally that the Senate President named him ‘The Prince of the Senate.’ In this 9th senate, he is one of the top 10 senators that have sponsored the highest number of bills.

In 2019 general election, Ifeanyi Ubah declared for senate under the platform of APGA, he was disqualified under the instruction of Governor Obiano, but because he was very prepared for the task of the election, he joined the Young Progressives Party [YPP] and won.

Even in 2017, when Governor Obiano came to beg him to use his structures and resources to deliver him in his second term bid, the senatorial bid of Dr Ifeanyi Ubah was part of the conditions discussed in that meeting. So what is accidental about Ifeanyi Ubah’s election to senate?

On what ground will Obiano deploy his aide to call Ikemba Ifeanyi Ubah an “accidental senator”?

Now let’s look at how Obiano became the governor of Anambra state and use it to compare who is an accidental leader between the two.

It is on record that in 2013, Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano was in far away Houston, USA taking his favourite liquor in a swimming pool when a call came from Mr Peter Obi who asked him to come down to Awka immediately.

When Obiano asked why the urgency, he was told that decision had been made and that he had been ’anointed’ as the next governor of Anambra state.

Being a retiree, we were told that the man had no money to fly himself back to Nigeria. Peter Obi had to instruct Chief Okey Ezeibe to make available about 5,000 dollars for the immediate purchase of air ticket for him. That was how he was brought back and made governor.

He was never a politician. He was not a member of APGA. And worst still, he registered as a voter in Lagos State. Peter Obi literally imposed him on ndi Anambra.

In his second term election, we are all witnesses to how he went cap in hand crying to Ifeanyi Ubah to come to his aid and deliver him with his structures. In that election, Governor Obiano practically relocated to Nnewi following Ifeanyi Ubah up and down.

When the opposition saw what was happening and the huge influence of Ifeanyi Ubah in that election, he was arrested 48 hours to the November 18, 2017 governorship election and whisked to Abuja.

But as a cat with nine lives, Ifeanyi Ubah was released on Friday, November 17, and he rushed down to Anambra and gave Obiano 21/21 victory.

So when Obiano deploys his aide to call Ifeanyi Ubah an accidental senator, it is a mere sign of ungratefulness.

The picture above tells more of who is accidental and who stands gidigba.
