Insecurity in the country lingers in Nigeria as a result of lack of resources, Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, Lt.General Yusuf Buratai stated.
Appearing before the Senate Committee on Army, Bruatia also complained non -release of the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Finance crippled the activities of the Army.
He however appealed to the legislators to remove Nigerian Army from Envelope allocation and put the agency under first line charge in order for them to secure the country properly.
He added that most insecurity issues in the country would have been tackled by the Army if resources are made available.
He said ” The inadequate budgetary allocation envelope budget system and subsisting partial release of the funds had negatively affected Nigerian Army toward achieving almost secured environment for the citizry.
” The Nigerian Army is committed to securing the territory of Nigeria from any violation as the clearance operation to rid the country of the remnant of Boko Haram terrorists and other criminal groups.
” Timely and complete implementation of the budget will enhance the fulfillment of his mandate.
“I pray that the sum of N195.5 billion should be approved for the Nigerian Army personnel enolnment in the 2018 budget. The sum of N26.1billion for overhead while N39.8 billion be approved for capital. “
