Ghana’s former president Jerry Rawlings has died of complications arising from COVID-19 virus.
After Kwame Nkrunah, J. J. Rawlings as he was fondly called, was arguably Ghana’s most influential leader, leading two military coups, serving as a military ruler and winning two democratic elections before handed over power.
Rawlings is on record for executing eight senior Ghanaian government officials including three heads of state during his controversial anti-corruption campaign.
He recently buried his aged mother and reportedly died from a brief illness at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the nation’s capital Accra. May his soul respect in perfect peace!
Jerry Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947.
