BREAKING: NAFDAC approves AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19


The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NAFDAC) has, on Tuesday, approved the usage of AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 in Nigeria.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) announced this on its Twitter handle same day.

The tweet read:

“After undergoing final assessment by NAFDAC, we have confirmation that they have concluded their final checks with positive results.

“Nigeria can now go ahead and use the 3.924m doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.


Meanwhile, in an ongoing event in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation [SGF], Boss Mustapha has flagged off the vaccination exercise.

NPHCDA said it is poised to commence with vaccination of Nigerians starting with frontline health workers at the treatment centre of the National Hospital, Abuja.

Regarding the National Flag-off Ceremony for COVID-19 Vaccination, NPHCDA tweeted:

The day is here!
It’s the National Flag-off Ceremony for COVID-19 Vaccination taking place at the National Hospital Abuja, by Boss Mustapha, SGF/Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on #COVID19
