BREAKING: Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal Begins Sitting
As Peter Obi arrives tribunal
The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal has begun sitting in Abuja, holding its inaugural sitting today, Wednesday, May 8.
The Justices of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal are as follows:
1. Justice Zanaib Bulkachuwa.
2. Justice Abdul Aboki
3. Justice Peter Ige
4. Justice Joseph Ikyegh
5. Justice Samuel Oseji.
The Tribunal is headed by Justice Bulkachuwa.
The Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, had jointly filed a petition to challenge the outcome of the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] had declared President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress [APC] winner of the election.
Three other petitions were filed by other political parties and their presidential candidates challenging Buhari’s victory at the poll.
The PDP vice-presidential candidate in the February 23 presidential election, Mr. Peter Obi, was sighted arriving the venue around 8.30am on Wednesday.
Obi, the only notable candidate in the disputed election, arrived the venue and took a seat in the rear row at the left side of the courtroom.
Political pundits are already raising objections to the formation of the judges as the husband of Justice Bulkachuwa is a senator-elect of APC, the ruling party and the acclaimed winner of the election.
