Breaking: Senate Dumps Motion To Include S/E Into Nat’l Defence Council
Senate on Tuesday dumped motion requesting for the inclusion of South East into the National Defence Council and the National Security Council.
The motion was sponsored by Senator Victor Umeh.
Efforts by Umeh to ensure that the South Easterners have representatives at the National Defence Council and National Security Council was killed by the Senate.
Umeh had expressed concern that none of the service chiefs as appointed to the National Defence Council and the National Security Council comes from the South East of Nigeria as firmly enshrined in the constitution through the spirit and Principle of Federal character.
But, both Senator Bala Ibn Na’ Allah countered Senator Umeh motion arguing that the Senate confirmed the appointment of the Service Chiefs without objection and it will be an indictment of the part of Senate to urged President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint a representative of South East into Security Council.
Responding to the motion, Senate President, Bukola Saraki threw out the motion saying issue raised in the motion is noted.
