Breaking: Senate Mandates President, Govs To Appoint Ministers, Commissioners 30 Days After Inauguration
Senate on Tuesday gave 30 days ultimatum to President, Governors after their inauguration into office to appoint Ministers and Commissioners.
This was the part of the amendment of 1999 Constitution suggested by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu-led constitution amendment committee.
Part of the recommendations are financial autonomy for local government, independent candidates for all levels in elections, former Speaker’s and former Senate Presidents to be part of National Council of states.
Presenting the report, Senator Ekweremadu also reduced the period in which President can withdraw money from National purse from six months to three months.
He said this would enable the executive to their job effectively.
He also said the new amendment gave power to state to generate power and also distribute power.The Committee also recommended that sole administrator in local government would not benefit fund from National pursue again with this amendment.
The committee separated the office of Minister of Justice from that of Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
The ad hoc Committee on amendment of constitution also removed National Security Act, Land use Act, Public Complaint Commission (PCC) from constitution to bring about time to time amendment.
