Senate has threatened to arrest Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim if he fails to appear before the adhoc committee investigating various allegations leveled against the Police and the Police Service Commission (PSC).
Ibrahim is expected to appear before the panel to give explanation on the allegations raised against him by Senator Isah Misau.
Addressing newsmen on absence of IGP, Chairman of the adhoc committee, Sen. Francis Alimikhena, said the police chief had been summoned on October 16 to appear before the panel before he rushed to court.
Quoting Section 89 of the 1999 Constitution as amended, Alimikhena said nobody, including law courts can stop the Senate from carrying out its constitutional duties.
He added that the principle of powers separation is guaranteed by law.
The chairman said the committee received a letter from Alex Izon, a lawyer to IGP on the reason behind the Ibrahim absence before the Committee.
